  • Paper
  • Markers
  • Colored Pencils
  • Pens

Directions

  • Read the Morning Offering with the children:

My God, I offer you my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day in union with the holy sacrafice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your Son's Sacred Heart, for the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, and the reunion of Christians. Amen.

  • Ask if there are any words that they are unsure about, for example, reparation.
  • Help the children to better understand the prayer by defining words indicated by the children.
  • Distribute the materials.
  • Ask the children to write out the Morning Offering, and after each word or phrase, draw a symbol or small picture illustrating what the words of the prayer mean to them.
  • Have the children share with each other their completed prayers, including the symbols and pictures.
  • Together, pray the Morning Offering using the illustrated prayer sheets.
  • Tell the children to take their prayer sheets home and use them to pray daily the Morning Offering.

Hints

Prepare definitions of words that children might not understand.

Write the Morning Offering on the board so that children are able to see it and read it.

Sensitivities

If a child within the group experiences small motor difficulties, have someone scribe the prayer for him or her, leaving room for the child to make symbols and pictures as he or she is able.
