Eucharistic Prayers

Activity Objective

The young people will become more familiar with the four Eucharistic prayers and their components.

Lesson Outcome

The young people should be able to identify the Eucharist as the source and summit of the Christian life.

  • Copies of the Eucharistic prayers
  • Pencils

  • Review with the young people the parts of the Mass. Point out the Eucharistic prayers and how they are used on different occasions.
  • Allow sufficient time for the young people to read the prayers silently.
  • Then instruct them to do the following:

Underline phrases that deal with thanksgiving and/or praise.

Draw a circle around the part in which the celebrant calls down the Holy Spirit to make the gifts holy.

Draw a box around the Gospel account of Jesus at the Last Supper.

Put a star next to the part in which the priest offers the sacrifice of Jesus back to the Father.

Make a check mark next to any petitions that the Church makes to the Father.

Invite the young people to form four groups, according to the Eucharistic Prayer they worked on.

Direct the young people to share their work with their groups.
