Family First, First Family

Activity Objective

To help children recognize that caring and sharing begin with their own families at home

Lesson Outcome

The children will recall happy times they have spent with their families.

Directions

  • Tell the children that this activity will help them to recall ways in which they have shown their love for members of their families and how their families have shared happy times together.
  • Invite the children to join you in sitting in a large circle. Begin by reminding them that the first family we know is our family at home.
  • Suggest that they close their eyes and think about an everyday occurrence in their home that brings peace and happiness to family members. (sharing a sporting event; conversations at family dinners; bedtime stories and prayers)
  • Begin by relating a family experience of your own and then asking for a volunteer to do the same. Continue until all who wish to do so have contributed their stories.
  • Conclude by reminding children of the warm, happy feeling that accompanies special family times.
