Activity Objective

To create a Family Prayer Box

Lesson Outcome

The children will identify practical ways to explore prayer and prayer opportunities.

Materials

  • Small box or container (one per child)
  • Religious stickers
  • Markers and crayons

Directions

  • Tell the children that one way to pray is by writing or drawing their prayers of praise, thanks, need, or love down on paper and then putting them into a Family Prayer Box. Show the children a model of a Family Prayer Box.
  • Ask the children to decorate prayer boxes to take home and use with their families.
  • Tell the children that each person in the family can add a prayer to the box at any time and that all can gather daily to pull out and pray one of the prayers.

You may want to send home a short note to the parents explaining the Family Prayer Box. Remind the children that they may include prayers of praise, thanks, petition, and love.
