Food Scavenger Hunt

God Provides for Us

Activity Objective

To find in nature all the ways God provides for us

Lesson Outcome

The children will understand that God provides all we need.

Materials

  • Note pads
  • Pens/pencils
  • Paper bags

Directions

  • Explain to the children that as with the miracle of the loaves and fishes, God will provide us with what we need.
  • Explain that the group is going to go outside on a scavenger hunt for those things that we need that God has provided for us.
  • Arrange the children in groups of four or five. Give each group a pad of paper, pencil, and a paper bag.
  • Explain to the children that you want them to ?collect? things they have found which God has provided for our needs. These can be small things, (acorns/nuts and seeds they can put in the bag) or larger things (fresh air, trees for shade) that they can write on the note pad.
  • Take the group outside for 5-10 minutes to ?collect? these things.
  • Come back inside and have the groups share what they found.
  • Reinforce with the children that God provides for all of us.

Learning Styles

Body Smart, Nature Smart, People Smart

Approximate Time

Hints

  • If the weather is inclement, the children can sit in groups and brainstorm rather than go outside.
  • Be sure to obtain permission from your catechetical leader before taking the children outside.
