Jesus' Community

Activity Objective

To teach the children to recognize that through Baptism they, along with their families, are part of Jesus? community

Lesson Outcome

The children will be able to explain how the Church calls us to new life in Baptism.

Materials

  • Paper
  • Markers, colored pencils, crayons
  • A large piece of poster paper with the words ?Jesus' Community? written in large letters

Directions

  • Introduce this activity by reminding the children that through Baptism we become a part of Jesus' community.
  • Distribute the paper, markers, colored pencils, and crayons.
  • Instruct the children to draw a large drop of water on the paper. Do your own drawing first so the children have an example to follow.
  • Invite the children to draw their own faces and the faces of many other people (family, friends, neighbors) inside their water droplets.
  • As the children are working, ask: Why do you think we began with the water droplet? Why are we drawing all of these faces inside the droplets?
  • Reinforce that through the water of Baptism we become part of Jesus' community.
  • Collect the children's completed drawings and attach them to the large piece of paper.
  • Invite the children to name their parishes, the communities of Jesus where they belong, and to share whose faces they have drawn.
