Lord's Prayer Circle Activity

Activity Objective

To practice praying the Lord's Prayer

Lesson Outcome

The children will understand and pray the Lord's Prayer.

Directions

  • After completing the Reflect section of the session, invite the children to form a circle and sit down.
  • Tell the children that they are going to go around the circle and take turns praying the words of the Lord's Prayer. When you tap them on the shoulder, they will begin the prayer and continue until you tap the next child in the circle on the shoulder. Everyone must pay attention so that they are ready when they are tapped.
  • If a child is unprepared with the following words, he or she will be asked to go back and sit at his or her desk.
  • The children left in the circle at the end of the prayer are to be congratulated.

Logic/Math Smart

Approximate Time

15 minutes

Hints

To increase the children's attention, choose them at random instead of in order around the circle.

You will need to go over the prayer few times to include all the children in your group.

You may want to give stickers or pieces of candy to the children remaining.

Another variation is to use a ball and have the children say the next word in the prayer as they pass the ball. If they do not know the next word, then they are to return to their desks.

Sensitivities

If there are children in your group with special needs (physical, visual, hearing, language, or behavioral disabilities), adapt the activity accordingly.
