Activity Objective

To meet with someone who has directly felt God's calling

Lesson Outcome

The children will have an understanding about the role of the religious and the Church in their lives.

Materials

  • 3" by 5" cards

Directions

  • Before the session, arrange to have a priest or other religious (or member of the Religious Education Department) speak to the group.
  • Explain to the group that they will be having a guest speaker for today's session.
  • Talk with the group about the proper manners one shows to a guest speaker.
  • Before the speaker comes to the session, work with the children on questions they would like to ask the speaker.
  • Write the questions down on the 3" by 5" cards.
  • You may want to have a few questions already written down, such as: "How did you know you wanted to be a priest?", "What do you do during the day if it's not Sunday?", "What is your favorite part of being a priest?"
  • Pass out a card to any child who would like to ask the priest a question.
  • Have the group thank the priest when he is finished.
  • Spend a few minutes with the group asking what they learned from the priest.
