Our Never-Fail Recipe

Activity Objective

To reinforce with the children that their small actions can have far-reaching effects

Lesson Outcome

The children will express in a group recipe how they can be the yeast in serving the Kingdom of God.

Materials

  • Several small packets of yeast
  • Papers with outline of a bowl that gets gradually larger from bottom to top, with writing lines inside

Directions

  • Tell the children that they are going to write a special recipe for helping to spread the Kingdom of God.
  • Divide the children into small groups. Give each group a packet of yeast as a reminder that they are the yeast--the most important ingredient in the recipe.
  • Give each group a paper bowl on which they can write their never-fail recipe. Tell children that just as they add one ingredient at a time when they bake, for this special recipe they will add one word at a time to the descriptions of their ingredients. They may use phrases or sentences. (Example, reading from bottom to top: love, helping hands, speaking kind words, tuning in to needs, getting others involved in helping, Serve often and watch what happens!)
  • Have the children share their recipes with the group. Compliment them on their good ideas and remind them how important each ingredient is, especially the yeast.
