Personal Promise Cards

To identify the diversity of gifts given by the Holy Spirit

The children will be able to recognize the diversity of gifts given by the Holy Spirit.

• Bibles
• Colored paper
• Crayons, markers, glue, scissors

• Begin the activity by inviting the children to tell what they know about Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit.
• Say to the children: On Pentecost, we remember the day the Holy Spirit came to the disciples, and we celebrate the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
• Allow the children to work in pairs.
• Invite the pairs to brainstorm the many talents they have and how they might use one of their talents to help others.
• Before the children move on in the activity, have the pairs of children share with everyone some of the things they have brainstormed.
• If you like, create a list of talents the children have mentioned.
• After a brief discussion, distribute colored paper and crayons to the children.
• Ask the children to create a promise card that will be kept for themselves as a reminder of how they can share their special talent with others.
• If possible, show the children an example of a promise card that you have made for yourself.
• Have the children complete the sentence: "I promise to (special talent) to help continue Jesus' mission."
• Encourage the children to decorate their cards any way they like, but suggest that they include how they plan to use their talents.
• When all the cards are finished, invite the children to share how they plan to fulfill Jesus' mission by using their special gifts.
• Encourage the children to keep their promise cards in a special place at home. Remind them that this card will serve as a reminder of the commitment to carrying on Jesus' mission in the world.
• If you like, try to include their promises during their prayer service.
• Close by saying: Your mission is to bring God's love to all you meet in your own special way. Remember this as you continue to nurture your special talents!
