Resident Tells of Missionary Visit

Activity Objective

To encourage the children to help others learn about Jesus so they may be welcomed to the Church through Baptism

Lesson Outcome

The children will tell the story of Philip inviting the court official to follow Jesus.

Materials

  • Writing paper
  • Pencils

Directions

  • Tell the children that this activity will remind them how important it is to help others learn about Jesus.
  • Ask the children what an investigative reporter does. (asks questions to obtain facts) Suggest that they pretend they are investigative reporters for different TV stations.
  • Assign one child to be the Ethiopian court official. Divide the rest of the children into small groups. Tell them that each group will have an opportunity to send a reporter to interview a local resident for a news segment about the visit of a missionary to the area. Their first assignment is to brainstorm questions they would like to ask the court official about his conversation with the missionary. Tell them to write down their two or three best questions.
  • Then have a representative from each group bring the group's questions and sit at a table with the court official. Let them take turns asking questions of the official and taking notes.
  • After all the groups have asked their questions, have the representatives return to their groups to discuss their findings.
  • Ask some summary questions of the whole group, bringing out the idea that the official was baptized, that he wants to spread Jesus' message, and that the missionary went to more towns to reach other people.
