Prayers to the Holy Spirit

Activity Objective

To have the children begin to actively include the Holy Spirit in their prayer lives

Lesson Outcome

The children will have the opportunity to write in their own words a prayer to the Holy Spirit.

Materials

  • Paper, pencils

Directions

  • On the board write the words Come, Holy Spirit, help me.
  • Invite the children to talk about asking the Holy Spirit to help them or someone they know.
  • Pass out the paper and pencils.
  • Ask the children to write a sentence asking for help with something in their lives?school work, friendships, activities.
  • Under their own sentences, ask them to copy the sentence on the board onto their papers.
  • In your prayer circle at the end of class, ask a volunteer to read aloud his or her prayer to the Holy Spirit.
  • Remind the children that the Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus to help us bring our prayers to God and that they can pray to the Holy Spirit any time.

Hints

Prayer sheets can be put in a three-ring binder and placed on your prayer table. The children can continue writing to the Holy Spirit, and the group will offer up all the prayers to the Holy Spirit.

Prayer can be very private for some children, and it is important to respect the privacy of the children.
