Report from Jerusalem

Pentecost Activity

Activity Objective

To review the Pentecost story (found in Acts of the Apostles 1?2:41)

Lesson Outcome

The children will recall the story of Pentecost and Peter's message to the first Christians by creating short news releases describing the events.

Materials

  • Bibles
  • Writing materials
  • Simple props as needed (optional)

Directions

  • Divide the children into four groups.
  • Explain that they will be recalling the events of the first Pentecost (as described by Luke in the first two chapters of the Acts of the Apostles) by creating a short news release for each part of the story.
  • Provide each group with Bibles and one of the following Scripture references:

The Ascension?Acts of the Apostles 1:1-12

The Waiting Period in Jerusalem?Acts of the Apostles 1:13-26

The Coming of the Holy Spirit?Acts of the Apostles 2:1-3

Peter's Speech and the Three Thousand Baptisms?Acts of the Apostles 2:14-24, 36-41

?

  • After reading their Scripture passage, each group should decide the most important ideas contained in it and then create a short (about 30 seconds) news release about their part of the Pentecost story.
  • Each group will need to decide who will be their reporter and how they will present it to the rest of the children.
  • Encourage the children to use any simple props that would be appropriate.
