Seeing the Good in Others

Activity Objective

The young people will reflect on the good qualities of the people they live with.

Lesson Outcome

The young people should be able to identify the Ten Commandments as the principles for an authentic relationship with God and others.

Materials

  • Paper, pencils
  • CD player, instrumental music CD

Directions

  • Review with the young people ways in which we show respect for others. Remind them that one way of showing respect is to see the good in others.
  • Direct the young people to make an acrostic for each member of their family. Instruct them to complete the following steps:

Write the name of the member vertically.

For each letter, think of one of that person's good qualities that contains that letter. Write the word horizontally.

  • Invite volunteers to share one of their acrostics.

Hints

For young people with large families, you may want to suggest they choose three members.

To create a reflective atmosphere, you may wish to play instrumental music while the young people work.
