Special Gifts Picture Frame

To identify the diversity of gifts given by the Holy Spirit

The children will be able to recognize the diversity of gifts given by the Holy Spirit.

• Bibles
• Felt cloth in assortment of colors
• Newspapers and magazines
• Index cards (5-by-8 inches)
• Cardboard or thick poster board
• Scissors
• Markers, crayons
• Glue
• Glitter
• Colored paper

• Before the activity, invite the children to share what they already know about the season of Pentecost.
• Encourage the children to recall the story of Philip and the coming of the Holy Spirit.
• Then, invite them to locate 1 Corinthians 12:3,12-13 in their Bibles.
• Read aloud the passage and have the children follow along silently.
• Spend a few moments talking about the passage.
• When you feel the children understand the diversity of gifts that are given to us by the Holy Spirit, turn their attention to the activity.
• Give the children newspapers and magazines, and instruct them to find pictures and headlines of people in the world who use their special talents to help others.
• Tell the children to cut out their findings to create a small collage. Try to encourage them to make their collages no larger than 5-by-8 inches.
• Provide the children with index cards and have them glue their work onto the cards.
• When the children have completed their collages, offer them strips of felt cloth, glitter, glue, and markers.
• Invite them to build borders around their collages with the felt to make picture frames.
• Allow the children to decorate their frames however they like. Have them write somewhere on the frame, The Holy Spirit Helps Us Share.
• Conclude the activity by inviting the children to share their collages with one another, and then say: The Holy Spirit helps us continue Jesus' mission. Your mission is to bring God's love to all you meet in your own special way.

Provide the children with plenty of magazines and newspapers to look through.

Prepare a collage and picture frame in advance to use as a model for the children.
