Activity Objective

Students will understand how the Church is apostolic.

Lesson Outcome

The young people should be able to explain how the church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.

Materials

  • Index cards
  • Pens, pencils
  • Chalkboard

Directions

  • Review with the young people what apostolic means.
  • Lead the young people in brainstorming terms related to the Church as apostolic. Possible terms include deacon, priest, bishop, cardinal, pope, Rome, Vatican, role of priest, role of prophet, role of servant-king. Write on the board their responses.
  • Instruct pairs of young people to choose five terms from the list on the board and make flashcards, with the term on one side and the explanation on the other side.
  • When they have finished, have each pair quiz each other using their flashcards. Then have pairs form small groups to quiz each other.
