Wall of Opposition

Activity Objective

The young people will reflect on Jesus' courage in the face of opposition and what it means for their faith.

Lesson Outcome

The young people should be able to identify ways Jesus showed us the Kingdom of God.

Materials

  • Bibles
  • Drawing paper
  • Markers or crayons
  • Clear tape

Directions

  • Engage the young people in a discussion about times when Jesus courageously proclaimed the kingdom even when people refused to accept his message. Ask them to give examples.
  • Direct the young people to open their Bibles to John's Gospel. Have them look through chapters 5-10 for examples of how Jesus faced opposition.
  • Have the young people choose one example and draw a picture of it. Tell them to write the Scripture citation at the bottom of thier drawing.
  • Invite volunteers to share their work.
  • When everyone has finished, have the young people tape their drawings together to create a large "wall of opposition." Display the mural in an appropriate place.
  • Tell them that they can refer to the mural for inspiration when they find it difficult to proclaim God's kingdom.
