What Does Courage Look Like?

Activity Objective

The young people will evaluate their ideas about courage.

Lesson Outcome

The young people should be able to identify how the Holy Spirit strengthens us to be Christ's witnesses.

  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • CD player, instrumental music CD
  • Chalkboard

Directions

  • Invite the young people to do some personal reflection on courage. Write the following questions on the board and have them think about the answers.

How can you show courage in your family? in school? with your friends? on teams? with younger children?

How do you think the following people would define courage: Saint Francis of Assisi? Pope Benedict XVI? Mother Teresa?

How have the following people or groups shown courage: Your parents? Your teachers? Your best friend? The Catholic Church? Missionaries?

When in your own life have you shown courage?

How did Jesus show courage?

  • Direct the young people to choose one of the answers to share with the entire group.
