Father and Infant Daughter Win New England Emmy Award

Matt and Rose Weber

BOSTON, MA, June 7, 2018 – Matt Weber, host of CatholicTV’s The Lens, was announced as winner of the 2018 New England Emmy Awards for his segment, “Infant Wisdom,” featuring his 8-month old daughter, Rose Weber. Matt shares his award with Rose – quite possibly the youngest winner of an Emmy thus far – for her role as a co-writer and featured subject in the piece. The Lens is an original series that looks at life from a Catholic millennial's perspective with games, social media, pop culture, and humor.

By day, Matt serves as the Director of Digital Communications Strategy at the Harvard School of Education. In his spare time, he works as the producer, writer, and host of The Lens. “The Lens gives me a chance to connect with the broader faith-based community on issues of culture and daily life; I love working at this intersection and being able to integrate these musings through the CatholicTV network,” shares Matt.

Weber also authored two books with Loyola Press about his experience as a young Catholic. His first book, Fearing the Stigmata (2012), features a collection of stories about growing up Catholic and experiencing his first secular educational pursuit at Harvard University. Matt’s second book, Operating on Faith (2016), winner of the 2017 Christopher Award, shows how necessary love, faith, and a little grit are in facing life-or-death challenges and emerging on the other side.

In the Emmy-award winning piece, “Infant Wisdom,” Weber unpacks the challenges that come with preparing for the holiday season, including adjusting to new family dynamics, multitasking, and adjusting to situations out of your control, which they had experienced the day Rose joined Matt on CatholicTV: “My wife and I were double booked that day for things we both had to do and our childcare fell through,” says Weber. “So, instead of trying to figure out another last-minute option or having one of us cancel our commitments, I just decided to incorporate Rose into my commitment -- which was hosting a TV show. Necessity is the mother of invention, which involved this father and daughter teaming up to invent together.” In the segment, Matt shares the wisdom he has learned from his daughter: enjoying a daily nap and a bath, knowing the power of smiling at a stranger, being okay with accepting help from a loved one, to name a few. “I'm super excited for Rose! She really did help with the script, ideation, and was my co-presenter during a unique hour in the studio. She was such a champion and I'm glad the New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recognized her subtle on-screen brilliance."

The winners of the New England Emmy Awards were announced at a ceremony on Saturday, June 2nd at the Marriott Boston Copley Place.
