Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Activity Objective:
The young people will create bookmarks using symbols for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Lesson Outcome:
The young people should be able to define Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Materials
  • Heavy paper or felt for bookmarks, 2 inches by 6 inches (1 per young person)
  • Colored paper
  • Markers
  • Paper and pencils
  • Glue
Directions:
  • Have the young people design bookmarks as gifts for Confirmation candidates in your parish.
  • Using symbols for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, have each young person make a bookmark.
  • Suggest that the young people also write letters expressing their faith and support. The letter and gifts can be sent when the candidates make their retreat or at another appropriate time.

25-30 minutes
Hints:
Contact the Confirmation coordinator and ask for a list of names of those to be confirmed. Inquire about an appropriate time and manner to deliver the gifts.

To save time, you may want to have the bookmarks already cut out and ready to design.
Sensitivities:
Assign each young person a specific Confirmation candidate to ensure a fair distribution of gifts.
