Naming the Apostles

Activity Objective:
To become more familiar with the names of the 12 apostles
Lesson Outcome:
The children should be able to identify the apostles by name.
Materials
  • Index cards
  • Large paper
  • Glue
Directions:
  • Cut the index cards into four smaller pieces.
  • Take the names of the apostles from Acts of the Apostles 1:13 (include Matthias) and write each letter of each name on the small index card pieces.
  • Invite volunteers (in pairs if you have a large group) to come forward and unscramble the letters of an apostle's name.
  • Instruct the volunteers to put the letters in the correct order, spelling each name.
  • Allow sufficient time for the volunteers to spell the apostles' names.
  • Explain that they are to glue the letters in the correct order on the paper you have provided.
  • Conclude by displaying the apostles' names.
