People of Virtue

Activity Objective:
The young people will be able to identify how the virtues are made visible in those around them.
Lesson Outcome:
The young people should be able to explain the virtues of faith, hope, and love.
Materials
  • Paper, pencils
  • CD player, instrumental music CD
Directions:
  • Review with the young people the cardinal virtues.
  • Invite each young person to reflect on his or her family to see how the members embody one or more of the virtues.
  • Have the young people choose a family member and write a short letter thanking that person for his or her example of virtuous living. Encourage the young people to explain how practicing that particular virtue has helped them.
  • Direct the young people to bring the letter home and give it to the person they wrote about, or to send it by mail.

Hints:
Playing instrumental music while the young people write helps to create a reflective atmosphere.
