R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Activity Objective:
To help children verbalize the concept of respect by sharing ideas to write a group acrostic
Lesson Outcome:
The children will explain that in order to be good Christians we must respect all people.
Materials
  • Chart paper, chalkboard
  • Marker
Directions:
  • Tell children that this activity will give them practice in working together respectfully to create a sentence acrostic.
  • Say that you will write their suggestions on the board so that together you can edit and make the acrostic better. Then write it on chart paper to save.
  • Write the letters R-E-S-P-E-C-T vertically on the board with space between them.
  • Ask the children to think of what they have learned about respecting all people and to think of ways to express their thoughts in sentences beginning with each of the letters of the word. (Responsible people show respect. Every person is part of God's creation.)
  • Work together until the acrostic is completed and everyone is satisfied with the final product.
  • Invite the children to read it aloud with you. Later transfer it to chart paper.
  • Compliment the children on the good job they did in describing the importance of respect.
Learning Styles:
People Smart,Word Smart
Approximate Time:
10 minutes
Hints:
Stress respect for each other's ideas for the acrostic and how ideas can be improved by working together.
Sensitivities:
Help children understand that all people deserve our respect, even if they are different from us.
