Earlier times and ancient cultures were filled with spiritual visions. Today, few people feel comfortable talking openly about visionary experiences—if they are able to recognize these experiences at all. In Visions, Eddie Ensley shows readers how to understand and reclaim a lost dimension of their spiritual heritage.
This intelligent, grounded treatment of contemporary sacred experience pulls together church tradition, psychology, medical science, and the author's own research into the history of spiritual experience. Ensley, a practicing Christian of Native American descent, also recounts his own deeply personal visions and the spiritual visions of others to illustrate ways the sacred can infuse our lives.
Eddie Ensley is an international speaker and a Catholic retreat leader, known for making spiritual practices accessible to the average person. Describing himself as a "miner in search of the forgotten riches of the spiritual past," he conducts primary source research into the Christian, Jewish, and Native American spiritual traditions and religious history. He holds a graduate degree in theology and has spent more than forty years studying visions. Ensley is the author of numerous articles and three books, including Prayer that Heals Our Emotions.
